Exploring the Paradox of Nature and Technology: Join Me for "Inter-Rooted"
I am so thrilled to announce my upcoming photography exhibition, Inter-Rooted, opening soon at the McCall Public Library Gallery.
As an artist, I have always been drawn to the intricate and captivating forms of trees and botanicals. Just as art students study the human form to understand shape and composition, I use my camera to study the natural world. Inter-Rooted is the culmination of this study, exploring the deep intersection between modern technology and the enduring spirit of the wilderness.
The Process: Construction and Deconstruction
For this collection, I wanted to capture the paradox between human progress and nature. Using the unparalleled digital capture of Hasselblad and Canon systems, I first document these landscapes with uncompromising clarity.
But the process doesn't stop at capture—it relies heavily on intentional deconstruction.
Through a reductive editing process, I intentionally strip away digital data, and employing techniques that prevent pixels from being created at the source. By leaving only the most essential elements, I want the subtraction itself to mirror the endurance of the earth. While the digital medium can be fragmented and broken down, the classical aura of nature remains an unshakable, enduring force.
Why You Need to See It In Person
Because of how these pieces are physically presented, the work truly comes alive in a physical space. I invite viewers to engage with the art from various angles because the pieces actually transform with the environment. As light sources shift in the gallery, the shadows cast from the work move in tandem. This interaction ensures the piece is never static, echoing the rhythmic, ever-changing persistence of nature itself.
